Pumping Up the Service: Motion Expands in Mackay

The Motion Engineering and Services Team is excited to announce the expansion of their pump repair services at their Mackay workshop, located in Queensland, Australia. By adding a dedicated pump repair division, Motion aims to bring a comprehensive, localised solution to customers across various industries.

Lance Brett, Product Manager for Pumps & Mechanical Seals at Motion, shares his insight into this new development: “We have a comprehensive testing workshop, but we’ve added pump capabilities, which is going to help our existing customers in the area. It also enables us to increase our service offering to them.”

Previously, customers in the Mackay region had to send their pumps to Brisbane for repairs, leading to longer wait times and higher transport costs. The addition of this pump repair service in Mackay eliminates the need for such delays, enabling faster, more efficient repairs that keep industries running smoothly. With local support on hand, businesses no longer have to worry about being out of operation for extended periods.

As Lance points out, this is one of the key advantages: “We have staff who are able to go out on site and do some troubleshooting as well as bearing changes, helping the customer in the plant, saving the customer time and adding to their uptime, reducing that downtime.”

The new division not only provides pump repairs but will soon include a mechanical seal repair centre, further expanding the services available to local industries. This commitment to local support underscores Motion’s goal of offering more cost-effective solutions. By focusing on repairs rather than replacements, customers can save substantial amounts while also contributing to a more sustainable approach.

Lance elaborates: “Some of those new pumps are a significant investment, and if we repair them, we can save the customers tens of thousands of dollars.”

This “repair, don’t replace” ethos plays a significant role in reducing environmental impact. Repairing pumps not only extends their operational life but also reduces the need for new manufacturing, thereby lowering the carbon footprint associated with producing and shipping new equipment.

Lance highlights the wide range of industries Motion can service: “This covers industries like mining, process, chemical, and food and beverage. Essentially, any sector manufacturing products or moving fluids using pumps—we’ll be able to support them.”

One of the success stories Lance highlights is the repair of a 60-year-old pump for a sugar mill, which saved the customer a significant amount of money. Lance recalls: “That pump has now been running for nearly seven years, and we saved that customer a significant amount in costs by rebuilding by rebuilding and bringing that pump back to life.”

Another notable success was with a seaway pumping station. Motion was able to repair pumps deemed unsalvageable, which Lance proudly states: “We repaired some pumps they thought were unsavable, and after 11 years, they then auctioned them. So we gave those pumps another ten years of life.”

The addition of the pump repair division in Mackay is a clear reflection of Motion’s commitment to making essential services more accessible to their customers, reducing costs, downtime, and environmental impact. By investing in local resources, Motion ensures that the industries they serve are well-equipped to meet the demands of their operations with confidence and reliability.
