A rigorous repair process
“Hydraulic cylinders are incredibly robust when operating in clean environments, but even the slightest damage can lead to failure,” says Jarrod. Motion’s repair process is designed to ensure that cylinders are restored to optimal performance – or better.
The journey begins with receiving the damaged cylinder and raising a job in the system. “Once it’s logged, a technician strips and assesses the cylinder, completing key measurements and a detailed condition report,” explains Jarrod. This report highlights wear, damage, and failure causes, which informs the repair scope.
From there, Motion’s team undertakes a thorough restoration, which may include replacing seals, machining new components like barrels or rods, or sourcing specialised parts. “We’re fortunate to have Seal Innovations and CBC within the Motion family, giving us easy access to seals, bearings, and wear components,” he adds. Every cylinder is reassembled with new seals – never reused – and tested to meet stringent quality standards before being returned to service.

Motion’s cylinder repair capabilities are most frequently employed in the mining and manufacturing sectors. “We work with high-pressure, high-strength equipment like that used in steel manufacturing and earth moving machinery,” says Jarrod. For these heavy industries, Motion provides a competitive advantage: in-house access to a vast array of components. “Our ability to source nearly everything internally allows us to offer quick, seamless solutions that many competitors can’t match,” says Jarrod. A customer-first approach Motion’s emphasis on rapid response is exemplified by a recent success story. “One of our sales reps in Sydney picked up a cylinder from a customer in urgent need of repair,” Jarrod recounts. The cylinder was brought directly to Motion’s Unanderra workshop, where the team sourced OEM seal kits and completed the job in under 24 hours. “The cylinder was back in action the next day, minimising downtime for the customer,” he says. This efficiency is not an anomaly. “Quick turnarounds happen all the time,” says Jarrod. “It’s a hallmark of our service and why customers trust us.”
A nationwide footprint
While Motion’s cylinder repair services are focused within the Engineering and Services Repair workshops located throughout Australia, “Our nationwide footprint of business units across all lines of business ensures we are able to offer these services to any of our customers,” says Jarrod. Motion’s broader network ensures customers can access support wherever it’s needed.
Innovation in accessibility
Motion’s competitive edge lies in its integrated supply chain. “We don’t have to rely on external suppliers for seals, bearings, or replacement components,” explains Jarrod. “This integration allows us to keep costs down and deliver repairs faster.”
Customers also benefit from Motion’s commitment to quality. “We never compromise on the parts we use or the processes we follow,” says Jarrod. “That means longer-lasting repairs and fewer disruptions down the line.”
